New BlackBerry OS 6.0

It appears that a lot’s going on this year in the world of BlackBerry. Firstly, the upgraded BlackBerry OS 6.0 is to be released, and while the full details haven’t quite been revealed yet, it appears that it’ll feature social networking feeds, universal search across most BlackBerry functions and even YouTube (it wouldn’t surprise us at all if a web search option such as Google turns up too), podcast support, and an improved browsing experience. The new operating system has been developed for both touchscreen and non-touchscreen devices.

In other BlackBerry news, not one, but TWO new 3G BlackBerry Pearl models have been announced by Research In Motion for launch in 2010.

The Pearl 3G 9100 (on the left) sports a QWERTY keypad, while the Pearl 3G 9105 (on the right) features a traditional T9 keypad, as found on most candybar-shaped handsets. Aside from these features, both models are reported to include 802.11n Wi-Fi support, a 3.2 MP camera and 256 MB internal storage (expandable up to 32GB), and perhaps some new features included with the new operating system upgrade.

These models are expected to be released later in 2010, so while you can’t get your hands on one now, it might cross your mind when upgrade time rolls around. We will, of course, keep you posted when BlackBerry OS 6.0 is finally released and available for download.
